The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory
BOOK 22 OF 2021
RATING: 4.5/5
What an adorably perfect contemporary romance. 4.5 stars rounded up!
After Alexa and Drew have the best meet cute ever (they get stuck in an elevator together at a hotel), Alexa spontaneously agrees to be Drew's date to his best friend's (and ex-girlfriend's) wedding, acting as his fake girlfriend. But of course, Alexa and Drew don't expect to fall in lurveeee given that this whole set-up is fake.
When it comes to romance novels, I thought I only really loved rom-coms. I've never been a huge romance reader unless I knew I was going to laugh a few times. Even though this book has a few cute-funny moments, nothing I would describe as comedic, I think it was the depth of the characters (especially Alexa) and how their careers played a role in their relationship (I loved reading about Alexa's job as chief of staff to a mayor).
Also, I loved how Drew's ego was never bruised when it came to Alexa's job. If Alexa had to do some work stuff on the weekend? No problem. If she can't go visit him on the weekend because she has some work events over the weekend? He sends her food. Instead of feeling insecure or threatened because he's dating a committed, busy and bright woman who is passionate about her job, he becomes her biggest cheerleader.
I will absolutely be devouring the rest of Guillory's backlist until her latest book comes out this summer.
