The Mixtape by Brittainy C. Cherry

BOOK 58 OF 2021

RATING: 4/5

I love romance when it's done well - and this is it! I really love Montlake (it's an imprint of Amazon Publishing). I am not typically drawn to romance stories (unless it's a rom com), but the love story in The Mixtape had me. It is one of those RARE stories that doesn't use the miscommunication trope (my least favourite romance trope - where the whole conflict of the story happens because of a miscommunication or something that could have been solved with a conversation between the two leads).

ANYWAYS. It was so refreshing to read a mature love story with two adults. Emery is a hard working single mom supporting her young vibrant daughter. Working a shift at the bar, she doesn't expect to serve rock star Owen, who is delving into alcohol to deal with his brother's death. After Emery helps him ditch the paparazzi and the crowd, they end up more involved in each other’s lives then they would have initially thought. What follows is a love story of two people bound together by hope.

Thanks so much Amazon Publishing, Montlake, and Brittainy Cherry for a copy of this book! It's out July 1!
