The Ex-Talk by Rachel Lynn Soloman
BOOK 26 OF 2021
RATING: 4.5/5
Oh hello, new book boyfriend.
Whenever I feel a book slump coming along, or am not really into whatever book I pick up, I find a good romcom does the trick to get me back into it.
The Ex-Talk is an enemies to lovers AND fake dating romance, which let's be honest, are the best kind of tropes out there. Shay has worked in public radio since she got out of school. She's loved her job producing, but always felt like there was something more out there for her, and always wanted to try to get behind the mic. Her world is rocked when Dominic, a young twenty something eager hot shot comes in and breaks a big story, which somehow snowballs into Shay and Dominic getting their own radio show: as exes. One problem? They've never dated and can't stand each other.
As someone who loves podcasts, I really liked how public radio/podcasting was a backdrop of the book. Shay and Dom were totally adorable too: I loved reading their relationship developing, and how they did it all backwards: host a podcast as exes, break up, date, get to know each other... you get the idea. Also, Dom is truly a great book boyfriend: he sounded hot, has a great relationship with his parents, is motivated at work, super in tune with others emotions, and has equal parts maturity and innocence.
When a romcom makes me laugh out loud, fall in love with the characters, and just really enjoy their journey of falling in love? A true winner. I highly recommend this fun book!
