Normal People by Sally Rooney
BOOK: 1 of 2021
RATING: 4/5
Okay - so I tried reading Normal People this time last year and was just not in the headspace to read a book like this. I am so glad I didn't give up on it and decided to read it! Rooney’s writing demands my full attention, and I found myself reading slower than usual to take in the story she was telling. I ended up enjoying this book way more than I thought I would, but the reason I'm giving it only got 4 stars is because I was able to put it down (it didn't have that 'un-put-down-able' vibe a five star usually has for me).
Normal People is a very character driven book focusing on the relationship between Connell and Marianne. As high school classmate's who get to know each other outside of school, lonely and quiet Marianne and popular and well-adjusted Connell form a relationship they decide to keep secret. As their paths cross through university and beyond
I really enjoyed Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney as well. If you like literary fiction, messy characters and complicated relationships, give this one a read!
