No One Asked for This by Cazzie David
BOOK 29 OF 2021
RATING: 3.5/5
This book was a good read for me during a busy work week. David's debut essay collection covers her existential anxiety, family dynamics (she's the daughter of Larry David), and the utterly modern dilemma of having your breakup displayed on the Internet.
David's essays were great company during lunch breaks! She is pretty funny (I did a lot of underlining), and although she does come across as super privileged and in some cases pretentious she acknowledges it and owns it. Judging by some Goodreads reviews, this seemed to bother a lot of people, but because she was so self aware about it I wasn't bothered by it.
The writing wasn't literary prose, but I found her relatable and funny. I would read another book or collection of essays by her!
Thanks so much HMH Books for a finished copy of this book.
