My Book Journey
Hello! Welcome to my blog. Is this how you start a blog? I literally have no idea what I’m doing here. I’ve reignited my love for reading over the past few years, and starting a book blog seems like the next natural step in my book journey.
Last year I found an outlet in reading. I've always been a reader: ever since I was a kid and all through high school. My reading dropped off a bit in uni and college, because of course if I was spending time reading books for fun that meant I could have spent my time actually studying (but then I ended up just binging Netflix).
So, after finally getting a job (that's on my career path!) and settling into things, I was able to get back into the rhythm of reading. In 2018, I read 37 books (which was incredible for me)! A large part of that is due to Spivey's Book Club group on Facebook. I joined this Facebook group full of book nerds who share book reviews, current reads, upcoming releases, and recommendations. I seriously felt like I was missing out when everyone was talking about a great book! It's like the best kind of peer pressure.
Reading was a much more effective outlet for me than watching TV because I'm able to fully immerse myself in the world of the book I'm reading. For someone who deals with bouts of anxiety, it's the perfect escape. I still enjoy the occasional Netflix binge and the Bachelor on Monday nights, but in most of my free time I’m reading.
Through Spivey’s Book Club I discovered the incredible world of Bookstagram. Instagram for books. SERIOUSLY MY DREAM. I didn't last long as a lurk because I quickly signed up for an account to share what I was reading. Honestly - most spaces on the internet suck but Bookstagram is a rainbow. Everyone is so kind, friendly, and genuine. I absolutely love it. It's fun to make connections with so many people all over the world bonding over books. And oh I read 120 books in 2019. WHICH IS WILD! And all because of Bookstagram.
Starting a blog seems like the next natural step for me in my journey (okay, I’m ready for the Bachelor because I’ve brought up my ‘journey’ many times now). I’ve upped my reading game in 2018 and started tracking my reads on Goodreads, started a Bookstagram in 2019, and 2020 seems like the year to start a blog! Talking about books in long form? Heck yes! Plus I work in communications, so I like to think that having a blog and writing about something I'm passionate about will help me with my writing skills that I can apply towards my job.
Thanks for reading along if you’ve made it this far! I’m excited to share my thoughts on all things bookish and my book reviews for 2020. If there’s anything you’d like to see my write about or what you like book blogs to cover in general, please let me know!
