Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley

BOOK 47 OF 2021

RATING: 4.5/5

Even though there's a few other books in this picture - I needed to include this one with the review to show off the absolutely stunning cover. I passed by this one in Indigo and couldn't not pick it up.

Firekeeper's Daughter was a wonderful read. Daunis is 18, biracial, and feels like an outsider in her small town, waiting for the day she can leave and pursue the study of medicine. After tragedy strikes, Daunis gets swept up in a criminal investigation delving into a drug investigation in her home town.

I am being *~intentionally~* vague with that description because it does a disservice to the magic of reading this book when you know what's going to unfold in the first half of it. Just trust me and read it! If you like following lovable characters, a well thought out story with a well paced mystery, check this one out.

The writing, pace of storytelling and the mystery were all fantastic. Daunis was such a cool character: so brave and fearless, and total Veronica Mars/Nancy Drew vibes. I LOVE a YA mystery solving heroine. This one may be described as more of a slow burn but I think the pace and storytelling are so great it's worth it even if you prefer a fast paced thriller.

I cannot wait to see what this author writes next!
