Consent by Annabel Lyon
BOOK 44 OF 2021
RATING: 4.5/5
Wow, I VERY MUCH enjoyed this dark book. This was one of the first books I read in my quest to get a head start on reading some of the Women's Prize for Fiction nominees. I chose this one because it was a short audiobook and figured I could crank it out in a day. I was right!
Consent follows two sets of sisters: Saskia and Jenny, who are only alike in appearance, and Sara and Mattie, Sara is the older sister who leaves home right when she gets the chance, leaving her mom and her intellectually disabled sister, Mattie. When Jenny is severely injured in an accident, Saskia puts her life on hold to be with her. When Sara and Mattie's mother dies, Sara is left as Mattie's guardian.
The book really delves into family relationships and familial obligation. I enjoyed the characters, there were quite a few suspenseful moments (considering I wouldn't define this book as suspense),
