Books & Shoes - that's it (15)

What I read & am reading

This was a productive reading week for me!! I finished and started some great books.

I finished I Kissed Shara Wheeler by Casey McQuiston (I was able to listen to an early copy of the audiobook thanks to Libro.fm's Advanced Listeners Copy program). It was.... a let down for me, unfortunately. I found the two main characters annoying, and just had a "that's it?" feeling while reading it. To me, it didn't have the magic that her other two books had. FWIW, I LOVED Red, White and Royal Blue and liked One Last Stop.

I also finished Project Hail Mary (fun, adventurous, sci fi!) and The Nature of Witches (just an okay witchy YA book!). I'm having a very witchy weekend, as I'm currently listening to In Defense of Witches by Monda Chollet and hoping to read Wild is the Witch (another book by Rachel Griffin). Thankfully, not a sequel, because I've been making the mistake of requesting advanced reader copies (arcs) that are sequels, and then I end up being wildly confused because I had no idea the book was a sequel OR have to push some of my 'want to reads' aside so I can read the first book before diving into the second book.

I'm heading into the long weekend taking part in my first #25in5 challenge, which means you aim to read 5 hours a day, for 5 days, totaling 25 hours in 5 days. I'm prioritizing some books that have been on my Netgalley shelf for a while that I don't want to worry about anymore!

FAVOURITES FROM THE WEEK

This was a bit of a weird week because I took a sick day (which I don't think I have taken during this entire pandemic, or since I started my new job over a year ago)!! So I wasn't up to much.

Mail

Okay mail does seem like a rather strange thing to call out specifically with but hear me out. I love receiving mail. Surprise mail, mail I was expecting, a letter from the bank, just love it. I love the daily walk to the mailbox or seeing a UPS or Purolator truck parked out front.

This week it was a perfect storm and I received SO MUCH MAIL lol. I got some book mail (some that I was expecting and some that was a surprise), clothes I ordered from Aerie, my Sephora sale order, a goodie package from work and a new pair of shoes. For a week that I felt pretty crappy, it was nice to have something to look forward to. Pictured are some of the 'surprise' books I received. I'm currently reading The Petting Zoos and loving it! (Thank you Dundurn Press!)

Allbirds

Last year, I ordered myself a pair of Allbirds (shoes) after I saw an internet friend wearing them and claimed they were the comfiest ever. I am not a shoe person - meaning I don't often buy shoes for the hell of it and will always choose comfort over anything else. I bit the bullet, spent $140 on shoes (which is a LOT I'll admit - Allbirds also claims to be a sustainable company and their prices reflect that).

It's true: these are literally the comfiest pair of shoes I've ever owned. They're light, comfortable, did not take long to break in look cute with a dress or with jeans, and work if you're going on a long walk. I bought the white pair - and even though they do get dirty immediately I still really like them.

Since I'm retiring my Blundstones for the season I wanted to add another pair of shoes into the mix since my white ones do need to be washed often. I bought (in the exact same style) the grey tree runners and some new laces (oh yeah - I guess I'm not really a shoe person because my dogs love to eat my shoes. Marvel chewed the shoelace down to a string and one of them chewed parts of the ankle). They are so comfortable and versatile I honestly wouldn't be surprised if I bought myself another pair soon.
