Book Review: Too Late by Colleen Hoover

Book: 82/150

Rating: 1/5

Summary: Sloan will go through hell and back for those she loves. And she does, every single day. After finding herself stuck in a relationship with the dangerous and morally corrupt Asa Jackson, Sloan will do whatever it takes to get by until she's able to find a way out.

Nothing will get in her way.

Nothing except Carter.

Sloan is the best thing to ever happen to Asa. And if you ask Asa, he'd say he's the best thing to ever happen to Sloan. Despite Sloan's disapproval of Asa's sinister lifestyle, he does exactly what he needs to do in order to stay a step ahead in his business. He also does exactly what he needs to do in order to stay a step ahead of Sloan. Nothing will get in his way. Nothing except Carter.

Thoughts: Ugh, I so regretted reading this book. Colleen Hoover is one of my FAVOURITE authors. I will read anything she writes - but I shouldn't have finished this one. In the author's note, she explains that this book was kind of an experiment and side project for her, which is why it is so different from her other books. One of her other novels, Verity, is set up the same way (side project, different from usual romance genre); and while Verity was dark and disturbing, it is nowhere near how disturbing an unnecessary the subject matter was in this one.

To me, this one was a trauma porn story with no redeeming qualities. The characters weren't very well developed, and the main character Sloan just kept getting sexually assaulted and manipulated from her "boyfriend" Asa. I wasted too much time reading this book so won't waste spending the energy to write a more detailed review. Skip this one.
