Book Review: The Exit Strategy by Lainey Cameron
Book: 89/150
Rating: 4/5
Summary: Silicon Valley investor Ryn Brennan is on the verge of achieving everything she dreamed. She’s succeeded in the male-dominated venture capital world, has a supportive husband, and is about to close the deal of her career. Everything is going exactly as planned, until she meets Carly, her husband’s mistress, across the negotiating table.
Carly clawed her way back from being a teenage runaway to become an accomplished scientist, caring single mom, and co-founder of her startup. Once she marries her loving fiancé, she’ll secure the complete family she craves. But she’s blindsided to discover her not so perfect fiancé is already married – to Ryn, her company’s biggest investor In an industry full of not-so-subtle sexism, can the two women rise above, and work together to overcome heartbreak, and ensure their success?
Thoughts: I have really been enjoying books lately where a romance/guy isn’t the focus of a book, but the careers of strong women (think The Boyfriend Project)! This book is about the power of female friendship and what can happen when women support each other. Although Ryn and Carly meet in less than ideal circumstances, they don’t let the idiocy (this is being generous) of their husband/fiancé (same guy!) get in their way of what they want to accomplish in their careers. Both Ryn and Carly were great to read: they are smart, motivated, and driven.
I loved the #MeToo in Silicon Valley aspect of the book but would have liked to see it more fleshed out. I feel like it could have seriously been a book on its own! Also, I would have loved the Nutella latte recipe (ha!), and loved Ryn’s obsession with Nutella (can totally relate).
Thank you so much to Lainey Cameron for providing me with an e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is a book I read in one sitting and will be purchasing a paperback copy of to add to my collection and lend out to friends.
