Book Review: In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren
Book: 155
Rating: 3/5
Staged this photo at Indigo when I spotted it there two weeks before its publication day!
Coming at you on this fine, brisk October day with a holiday book review! Thank you to Simon and Schuster Canada and Netgalley for an e-arc of this read.
Mae, her family, and their extended chosen family are very faithful to their Christmas traditions. Every year they visit a cabin in Utah and spend the holidays together. After heading home on what would have been their final year at the cottage... Mae and her family get into a car accident and all of a sudden she's back on the plane, Utah bound, where she begins the same holiday week over (and over) again. What does she need to do to break the cycle??
I didn't quite love this one as much as I wanted to. Here's what I liked:
- The Christmas theme & it put me in the Christmas spirit (honestly I'm a Christmas nut so I'm like ALWAYS in the festive spirit)
- Quick read!
- Some of the supporting characters were funny and charismatic
What was a miss for me:
- I love magical realism but I found that this one fell flat and didn't make too much sense
- A groundhog day plotline can sometimes feel too repetitive for me and this one falls into that category
- Didn't really feel invested in the main characters and their love story
Unfortunately the misses outweighed the likes for me but I still gave it 3 stars. I love CLo's older work but their new stuff just hasn't been doing it for me lately! But will I still read anything they put out? Yes.
This book is out October 6, 2020!
