Book Review: Defending Jacob by William Landay
Book: 53/100
Rating: 5/5
Read this one if you like: courtroom dramas, suspenseful mysteries, and Chris Evans.
Summary: Andy Barber lives a happy life with his wife Laurie and 14 year old son, Jacob. As the assistant District Attorney, he gets pulled into the case of a murder of Ben Rifkin, a local 14 year old boy. As the case progresses, Andy’s son Jacob becomes the prime suspect in the murder and later gets charged with first degree murder. Did Jacob do it? And what lengths will Andy go to to protect his son?
Thoughts: Here lies my new favourite courtroom drama. Wow! What a read. I absolutely loved it and I haven't had a book hangover like this one in a long, long time. The courtroom dialogue was great, so many twists and turns along the way, and my jaw DROPPED at that ending.
I can't wait to watch the TV series. I've watched the first three episodes and so far, it's been incredibly loyal to the book. I'd love to share more of my thoughts on this one but I think giving away how I felt about it would totally spoil it!
Buy it/loan it/skip it? It's worth the buy. You'll want to lend it out and talk about it with your friends after.
