Book Review: Crescent City: House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas
Book: 144/150
Rating: 5/5
Move over (literally two other fantasy books I"ve read): there's a new favourite in town!
WOW, I LOVED THIS BOOK!
Was it the badass protagonist? Her love interest? The fact that I had no idea a HUGE event was happening at the beginning that changed the course of the book for me? All that I will share plot wise of this book is that it follows Bryce: a badass 'party animal' half human, half Fae, who goes through something unimaginable. A few years later, she is forced to team up with Hunt, a fallen angel who is now enslaved to the archangels he once tried to overthrow, to help track down the demon responsible for a string of gruesome murders.
My favourite thing about this one (and what I struggled a lot with in ACOTAR) is that there were no unnecessarily long battles, or any battles period! Is this what people felt like watching Game of Thrones?? (I get SO bored during battles). I think the mystery and solving crime element of this one sealed the deal for me. It was kind of like a modern, real world fantasy and I absolutely loved it.
I loved the relationships between all of the characters in this one; they were so well developed. Even characters who may not be ~alive~ throughout the entire book still have a strong presence, which is a testament to Maas' character and world building.
And honestly, this book is 800 pages long and I didn't feel bored or like any parts were dragging on ONCE. I spent one Saturday laying on the couch for 6 hours reading 500 pages of the book.
Now all I have to do is wait until November 2021 for the sequel.... good thing I have the Throne of Glass series to get through as well!
All the stars for this book.
