Book Review: Catch and Kill by Ronan Farrow
Book: 170
Rating: 4.5/5
Clearly I'm on an investigative journalism kick! Right after finishing up We Keep the Dead Close I wanted to get into Catch and Kill. My friend lent me this book when I last saw her in February and figured Non-Fiction November is a good time to crack this one open.
C&K follows investigative reporter Ronan Farrow as he investigates into accusations of Harvey Weinstein's behaviours of sexual misconduct. Farrow writes the story almost like a spy novel; as he's recounting his reporting, he's also telling the story of the spy who is tracking him.
I read She Said earlier this year, and really enjoyed it. I wanted to also make sure there was some time before reading this book because the subject matter is so similar. I found that She Said was focused more on the victims' stories (not to say Farrow didn't), and Farrow's focused more on the Weinstein machine. I learned so much in the second half of the book when he delved into the Israeli investigative services Weinstein used to keep track of who was talking about him and which outlets had stories on him. His global presence was insane and terrifying. I also found it so interesting (and after reading about Weinstein's impact, not surprising), how NBC sat on the story and did everything they could to prevent its publication.
