Book Review: Anxious People by Fredrik Backman
Book: 120/150
Rating: 5/5
Anxious People is a story about a bank robbery gone wrong. So wrong in fact that the bank robber ends up at an apartment viewing and accidentally holds the handful of people at the apartment viewing hostage.
The story is told in a non-linear way; presently in police interviews with the hostages, and flashes back to their time in the apartment. The first half of the book is a slower burn, it lays the foundation for the next half of the book and gives you a chance to really know the characters. The second half of the book is more plot driven and the pieces fall together about what actually happened that afternoon.
I have read a few of Backman's book before but this one is by far the most memorable. The dialogue and interactions between the characters throughout the whole book are laugh out loud worthy. He does an amazing job of creating flawed characters that you can't help but empathize with. This book took me by surprise in the best way. I highly recommend it; it's one of my favourites of the year for sure!
Thank you to Netgalley and Simon and Schuster Canada for an e-galley of this book in exchange for an honest review.
