Book Review: American Princess by Stephanie Marie Thorton

Book: 123/150

Rating: 4/5

One of my favourite books I read this year is And They Called it Camelot also by Stephanie Marie Thornton (check out my review here!) so I had incredibly high expectations for American Princess (actually released before Camelot).

American Princess follows First Daughter Alice Roosevelt, daughter of President Theodore Roosevelt, and her escapades in the White House and her life afterwards.

I don't know a lot about this time in history so I found it fascinating to read; it focuses on the political and historical while still keeping it compulsively readable. Alice was such a fun person (and character, I guess??) to read about. She never backed dow from challenging those around her.

I actually enjoyed the latter half of the book more, once Alice got married and was no longer in the White House under the watchful eye of her parents. I did find the beginning a bit slow to get into, but I think this book did a wonderful job of driving both the plot and the characters in this novel.

I have been really impressed with Stephanie Marie Thornton's work and I really hope she continues to write about modern (20th century and onwards) real life women. I will absolutely be buying!
