Book Review: A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
Book: 52/100
Rating: 4.5/5
Read this one if you: want to dip your toes in the fantasy genre, like classic re-tellings and a strong heroine.
Summary: When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she knows about only from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal but Tamlin - one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world.
As Feyre dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she's been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But an ancient, wicked shadow over the faerie lands is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it ... or doom Tamlin - and his world - forever.
Thoughts: I am reading this series with my best friend and it is SUCH a fun buddy read! I absolutely loved this loose Beauty and the Beast retelling. Feyre is such a likeable character and I loved Maas' world building. Other than Harry Potter, this is really my only *fantasy* read and I'm finding it such a nice escape at this time.
I do highly recommend this one for anyone wanting to try out a fantasy series if they've never read fantasy before. It is so different from what I'm used to reading and I'm absolutely loving it. I also bought her book House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City) because I've heard great things about it. I look forward to reading that series after I'm done with ACOTAR.
I'm going to keep the reviews short and then do a review of the series after I read them all. But I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed this one! It was easy to read and the world building wasn't overly complicated (I was worried I'd get a bit lost in it).
Buy it/loan it/skip it? Buy it!! And don't make the same mistake I did where I didn't order all of the books in the series at the same time. Now I have to wait for the second one to come in and I am getting very impatient over here.
