Audiobook Review: She Said by Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey
Book: 14/100
Rating: 5/5
Summary: Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey, the Pulitzer Prize winning reporters who broke the news of Harvey Weinstein's sexual harassment and abuse for the New York Times, delve into how they broke the story that would seriously impact the #MeToo movement.
Kantor and Twohey also had unique access to Christine Blasey Ford and her legal team during her time testifying in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee. It draws interesting comparisons between a case where there are several accusers vs. one accuser.
Thoughts: Wow, what a book. This is a deep dive into investigative reporting as well as how this story impacted the #MeToo movement.
I loved how the victims and survivors were so transparent in their truths and how the thought process that took place before deciding to go public or on the record with their allegations; as well as how both Kantor and Twohey treated their sources delicately and fairly and didn't engage in any tactics to ensure their sources went on the record even when they weren't ready.
In the epilogue of the book, all of the sources gather at Gwenyth Paltrow's house, hosted by Kantor and Twohey, and have an informal round table discussion on what their experiences were after coming forward with their allegations. Doing this also enabled a woman who was a victim of Weinstein to go on the record with her story.
This is definitely an important story if you can handle reading/listening to it. It is heart wrenching to hear these women's stories and how their lives have been so detrimentally affected through the abuse they endured, and if there is one book I could recommend all men read, it would be this one!
