Audiobook Review: Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson
Book: 73/150
Rating: 4.5/5
This book is funny, bizarre, and heartwarming. It makes for a great quirky read!
Imagine your estranged ex-best friend calls you up and tells you she needs your help. You know she's married some wealthy politician who wants to one day be President, complete with a huge mansion and set of staff that work on the property - what could she really need your help with?
Turns out: Madison's step-children will be coming to live with them after the death of their mother. There's only one thing: they spontaneously catch on fire when they get frustrated or agitated, and Madison wants Lillian to take care of them.
Lillian decides to accept and become the caretaker to these two kids: why not? It's not like she's got much else going on in her life. What she doesn't expect is the love, trust and bond she has with "these two weird fire kids" Bessie and Roland.
The book is told from the perspective from Lillian, who has a great inner dialogue. With no filter, she's always making you laugh out loud. Reading (or in my case, listening) to her relationship development with Bessie and Roland was so great and honest. It was such a great example of parental love. It was also great to hear their exchanges with Carl: the no nonsense employee of Jasper's who is very by the book and the complete polar opposite of Lillian.
I loved the relationship between Lillian and the kids: it was so pure and genuine. This book had so many moments where you laugh out loud and when your heartstrings are pulled. The narrator was great and this was a relatively short audio book at under 7 hours.
